Michael Hart has had a life time involvement with the double bass. He made his first double bass at the age of eleven, in need of an instrument to play in the Sussex Youth Orchestra, and went on to play professionally for the next thirty years. He combined his playing career with the restoration of double basses, and after retiring from playing in 1985, he returned to making on a full time basis. Mike has established a close working relationship with Italian violin makers in Cremona and Verona. Whilst his double basses are influenced by the Italian school, the design of his instruments is distinctively his own. He now lives in North Suffolk with his wife and two children.
All double basses by Mike Hart are constructed of European maple and spruce wood with the best ebony and brass fittings. Available in red, brown or golden brown oil varnish. Prices on request.
